Selling A level books!

Hello! This is directed to my darling juniors in J1 or 2 who, at this late juncture, might still want to stock up on extra practice papers. Or perhaps the sec 4s who would like early preparation.

All listed books have marginal to zero usage since me being typically me, I failed to study when I was supposed to. And all listed prices are about half of the original, or less [original price in square brackets]. Drop me a mail if you want any, and if you wanna haggle =P.

Just Look Back

I was being bored and re-reading my past entries and realised that I'd never actually had a 'farewell' kind of post after JC. There were reflections and stuff but not really a farewell, because we'd still be hanging around each other for another 8 months or so since A levels ended.

So since some unis are starting and many of us will be flying off soon, here's dedicated to my classmates, juniors, seniors and friends, a song written by a great ex-classmate for sec 4 farewell:

Just Look Back

When you look back on your lives
And your memories start to pour in
Would you still remember me?
And all the laughter we shared together.

When I was down you helped me up
When I cried you made me smile
I'd never known how much you'd really done for me
Until this very day

CHORUS
Don't cry my dearest friend
It might be over now
But don't you see
We can be glad that it happened
We might go on different paths
And life may get quite tough
But don't you see we
*Will try our best to be there

Years will pass and we will all grow up
Would we ever get the chance to meet?
Are you taller than you were before?
I might never know, but I'll treasure this time now

Would you still know me by name?
Could you tell which team I support?
Did you know by then I wouldn't mind at all?
I'm just we met

CHORUS
*Will try our best till the end

Just look back on your life....

Chalet!

Short post:

Thanks muchly to those who came for chalet (And for the really amusing/adorable/cool/sweet gifts)! Because I am lazy and did not take any photos myself I shall thusly also thank the twinses for being impromptu photographers!

And so photos are now up on facebook with exorbitant amounts of tagging. Sincere apologies for facebook-email spamming, I seem to be doing a lot of that lately.

Also learned to play mahjong for the first time! With excessive amounts of beginner's luck apparently. I still wonder why it's a tai tai game tho... doesn't it require quite a lot of probability and card-counting like bridge? Tai tais should make better use of their probabilistic skillz!

Elitism or Immaturity?

Rowling's Harvard Speech Doesn't Entrance All

"You know, we're Harvard. We're like the most prominent national institution. And I think we should be entitled to … we should be able to get anyone. And in my opinion, we're settling here. "

"From the moment we walk through the gates of Harvard Yard, they constantly emphasize that we are the leaders of tomorrow. They should have picked a leader to speak at commencement. Not a children's writer. What does that say to the class of 2008? Are we the joke class?"

To think you spend four years in Harvard and come out not knowing basic things what 'humility' is and what being a 'leader' entails. Not to say that that applies to everyone, there's always the few bad apples, but anyone at 21 should already know this.

I was going to post a rather ranty thing about whether this applies to our schools here but I know that anything I say can potentially be read several ways, so I'll just save myself the literary challenge and leave the article as a point to ponder.

Tutoring!

Wow I'm asking for tuition after telling my mum for four years that I didn't need it.

Who knows OOP (Object-Oriented Programming) specific to Java! Need crash/introductory course in early/mid July, probably 2-3 lessons, will pay.

=D

Phoenix Touchdown

Omg omg *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*

PHOENIX TOUCHDOWN!

It must've been really great for the team considering the original of the Phoenix clone, Mars Polar Lander, just failed mysteriously just before touchdown. Heartiest congratulations to the Phoenix EDL team!

For those who don't know what Phoenix is, it's a landing probe sent to the higher latitudes of Mars, designed to dig up the Martian dirt to search for and analyze water-ice buried just a few cm under the surface. Unlike the Mars Exploration Rovers in 2004 and Pathfinder in 1998, Phoenix uses retro-rockets to slow its decent, which is infinitely harder and more risky than the bouncing airbags of its predecessors.

And so the eyecandy we've all been waiting for:
