Skiving
Haha I wasn't technically skiving! I just happened to be fortunate enough to be roped into several fun trips this week, starting with:
- bringing Cambodian exchange students to Science Centre on Wednesday
- then going to Labrador Park on Thursday
- watching Step-up 2 with Aud then going for A2008 meeting on Friday
- then finally going to Bukit Timah with the sec 1s for geog on Saturday!
Bukit Timah was another great experience since it was only my second time there. Alexis used to be a guide there and so Joyce and I learnt a lot, and I'll bet the sec 1s learned even more =). It's really nice when you get to explain stuff to students who're interested, I think that's what makes the job fun, though there are always those whom you have to push and prod to do their work and that's what makes it stressful.
These two days' trips in particular made me really grateful to the geog and bio teachers in rgs for getting me interested in the subjects and for showing us how to really appreciate them. Though my content knowledge is still as pathetic as ever ^^; once I'm off work in June I would really like to enrich myself in these areas of interest again, hopefully go for an overseas trip to explore the geography elsewhere too. Will wait for April before I/we make plans I guess.
On a completely separate note, I finally managed to watch Hero! The japanese one, not the american tv series. It's quite... slow moving, don't really see what they mean by blockbuster, and it's quite similar to other courtroom shows which involve apparently straighforward cases that turn out to be... not so straightforward.
But there were nice segments in it - the whole ideal about why people go into law in the first place, an awareness of how they matter in people's lives and how after a while many get disillusioned and go after the money instead. At this juncture of contemplating careers I think we'd all find it very relevant to think about why, really, we're choosing to go into something. And not only on a personal level but as a profession, not everyone knows what the purpose of their profession is anymore. They may know what it's supposed to be for, but it's easy to tell when someone is genuine and when it's just lip-service.
The ending of the show was kinda random and funny but it was an interesting take on the subject, and I think more meaningful than usual movie portrayals. A case of loyalty, trust and belief in the other, moreso than an attraction/flirting bordering on obsession.
Still a couple of show's I'd like to watch, if only I could figure out how to make time for it. Will hopefully be freer if I pass driving this coming wednesday! Then my nights won't all be occupied at the circuit =.="
