Enchanted Take 2

I just watched Enchanted again since the disc is out - it's quite possibly nicer the second time you watch it, like the old disney classics. The singing and dancing reminds you so much of cartoons like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. However, one exchange in particular between Robert and Morgan struck me this time:

"She's (Nancy) gonna take you to school for some grown-up girl bonding time."
"But I'm only 6."
"You won't always be."

You won't always be.

Growing up is an exciting journey, but sometimes you wish things were as simple as they were when you were 6 - when you only had to worry about playing in the playground and making friends; no grades, no expectations, no thought of the future.

Is the magic gone because it disappears or have we just shut it out? It's no wonder in this age and time when lives are so planned out that people attribute love and kindness to a form of magic. They are the most random things around - things that science, engineering and genetics haven't yet dissected and formed into equations.

Another thing that struck me this time was the minor yet vital character, Nancy. The first time I watched it I was highly confused by why she'd go to fairytale land with a prince she barely knew. She had a successful career and was very practical in every way, making calculated decisions. I'm not saying it made any more sense to me this second time watching it, but maybe... maybe it's just making a statement, that even in the most practical of us, "deep down inside we all wanna make it too - Ever, Ever After".

Happily Ever After? Well that really depends on what - or who - makes you happy doesn't it? Especially if you consider the chances that it'd be mutual.
